Taking a Break and Getting Stuff Done

I didn't take a picture today. We were busy, not doing anything terribly exciting, and it just didn't happen.

This morning I woke up early and headed out for a 10-mile run. I was home by 8:30. I showered, got ready, and headed out for some time to myself while Erik watched the kids. We try to take turns and give each other breaks as much as possible. We wish we had more kid free time to hang out TOGETHER, but we take what we can get.

I went out and did some shopping, had lunch, and did my favorite thing: sat and drank coffee while reading at Borders. It was some nice "me" time and much needed peace and quiet. Erik took the boys to Brownstown park, brought them home and fed them lunch and entertained them until nap time.

When I got home, naptime was ending, so we set to work on some things we are trying to get done in the house. We have already rearranged our bedroom, and it looks great. Now we are working on Alex's bedroom. He is, starting tonight, going to be sleeping in a full sized bed. We bought him a new mattress to go with the headboard and footer we had in the attic (it used to be our bed until we upgraded to a queen). It is a really nice bed. We got it set up, and we are looking forward to get his room finished soon. We are relentlessly checking Craigslist and our local used furniture store to find a dresser and bookshelf that will go with his bed. We ordered fish bedding that will go well with the border that is already in his room. It is going to be such a nice big boy room for Alex, we can't wait until it's done!

Then Erik had a guitar lesson, and while he was doing that I had dinner with the boys and played some games with Alex. We then resumed home projects -- getting Alex's room straightened up, putting stuff away, Erik is working on getting our antenna working better . . . there is always something to be done around here!

That's it for now, I will try to get a picture of SOMETHING tomorrow!

Cars 2

Today we dropped Thomas off with a friend and took Alex to see his first movie, Cars 2. We liked the movie, but felt it was a little more for grownups than for kids. It was very intense, with a bit more violence than we would have liked, and the plot was definitely over the head of a 3 year old. There were some funny jokes in there, but Alex didn't really understand what we were laughing about. If you ask him what the movie was about, he will probably respond, "It was about cars." It was a long time for him to sit and watch a movie that didn't make all that much sense to him. Still, I think he liked going. We saw a preview for the new Winnie the Pooh movie coming out soon, and one of us might take him to see it.

A side note to my dad: please don't get mad at us for Alex's t-shirt in the photo! We figure he can have a national league team -- and the shirt was at Walmart for a DOLLAR!

We are all popcorned out on Boomerang Drive!

Average Day

It was a pretty low key day around here, we really didn't do much. I took a video of Thomas pretending to talk on the phone. I love, love, LOVE this video. You can see that Thomas really understands how to have a phone conversation.

Morning with Friends, Dinner with Family

This morning, we joined about 12 other kids from MOMS Club at our neighbor Megan's pool. This picture is of Thomas playing with his buddy Evan in their backyard playhouse.

As I speak. Erik and Alex are preparing the family a healthy meal of tilapia, couscous, and green beans. It smells delicious and we can't wait to eat it!

Family Picnic

Tonight we spent the evening at the Ephrata Park for our MOMS Club Family Picnic. We had a cookout, lots of food, and the kids had a great time playing on the playground. It was hard to get many pictures because they were so busy! In the photo below, Alex is in the gray shirt on the bottom right, and Thomas is in the yellow shirt up on top.

Park Time With Daddy

It has been wonderful having Erik home so far. Today he gave me a nice break this morning to rest after a long run, and took the boys to Denver Park to play.

Summer Reading Program

Our library has a summer read aloud program for kids under 6. Their parents read to them and write down the names of the books. Once they reach 30, they can hand in their papers for a prize. Here are the boys holding up their reading logs.

They received a ticket to the Lancaster Barnstormers, a ticket to the Strasburg Railroad, and a coupon for a free ice cream at McDonald's.

Hands on House

This afternoon, Erik took the boys to Hands on House. You can see from this video that they had some very important work to do there.

Bad Haircut

THIS is the face I was getting when I decided to give the boys haircuts this afternoon:

I tried my best to cut T's hair while he was crying, squirming, and pushing me away. Then, he grabbed the plastic guard off the clippers and broke it. His haircut wasn't done, and I had no way of going back and finishing it. Needless to say, his hair isn't looking that good.

I guess you can't have a happy picture every day, huh?

Bowling

Today we spent the afternoon at the bowling alley. We signed up for a great program called Kids Bowl Free, which gets Alex two free games of bowling every day all summer long! We will probably be spending a lot of time there.

A Summer of Photos

It's June 19th. We have two solid months of summer ahead of us! Erik and I have been talking about what fun things we would like to do this summer. Sometimes we get to the beginning of August and think, "Where did the summer go?" I thought that this year, I would try to make the summer fun and memorable by posting a photo of something we did each day. Whether we take a trip, go on a fun outing, or just hang out in the back yard, I thought it would be nice to be able to look back and remember where our summer actually DID go.

I'll start this today, although we already went on a great trip to New York. You can find a few photos we took up there on the June link.

Today, we went swimming. This is a photo of Alex trying to pet one of Grandmom's chickens after he got out of the pool. His comment? "That chicken won't stop to let me pet her!"
