Decorating for Christmas

Today we got out the Christmas decorations. We have quite an eclectic assortment of ornanents, and many of them have special memories for me. I love pulling them out and remembering.

For instance, did you know that Otis used to be our only child, and he got his own ornament and even got his picture taken with Santa? In typical second child fashion, of course, we have nothing for Lucy. Poor neglected dog.

Then there are the ones from my childhood. I am so glad that they were saved for me to put on my own tree. I am so happy to see them every year. Here are some:

Random ornament from 1979

Strawberry Shortcake

And the most awesome of all, The Shirt Tales.

Other ones I will always love are some of the ones Erik gave to me when we were dating. I used to be into Winnie the Pooh -- I have a quite a few of the characters on my tree -- but these hand carved ones are my favorites.

Knowing how much I love having my own special ornaments, I am starting to collect some for the boys. I hope they will save them and treasure them on their own trees someday (sniff, sniff).

Alex's first Christmas (I swear we had one for Thomas, but it somehow was lost. Again with the second child thing).

Alex the fireman (for his Halloween costume that year)

and Thomas the firedog.

Those of some of the ornaments that make up our "hodgepodge"tree.

Then we have our more formal tree. It's filled with more traditional ornaments and matching sets of things. This, too, is filled with sentimental value.

Ice skates made by my grandmother. These always have a special place, front and center.

Beautiful garland made by my Aunt Gayle.

It's hard to capture in a photo, but it is beautiful.

The house always looks so warm and bright with the Christmas decorations up. We are anticipating a cozy, cheer-filled holiday season this year.

That's what's happening on Boomerang Drive!
