January Homeschool Update

It's January and we are back in the swing of the school schedule!

One change we made for the new year is that we will continue with our workboxes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, but we will reserve Wednesdays for special things like field trips, library trips, and projects.

Last Wednesday we made this little project about where we live:

When Erik is home, he often goes with whatever Alex is interested and does all kinds of learning with him. Alex is fascinated with the planets. He can name them in order, and knows about things I know nothing about, like the asteroid belt. Erik talked to a high school science teacher who hooked him up with some posters. Alex has his room all postered up:

You can tell he hung this one himself:

He's more than halfway through his first grade math book (we skip a lot because it repeats things more than he needs them repeated) and he is continuing to work on reading.

Thomas is good at numbers and counting:

He needs to keep working on letters, and to make it fun for him we hung up letters around the house. We're working on a few at a time. He loves to find the letters as we call them out. Of course, he puts his creative spin on it -- he will often say something like, "I am a robot looking for E." Alex likes to mix the letters up and call them out for Thomas.

If you didn't check out my food rainbow post at Inside the Miles, make sure you do. Thomas is a HUGE fan of green smoothies now!

Other photos for the month can be found here.

That's it from Boomerang Drive!
