May Homeschool Update

This year has flown by and we're almost DONE! We are officially ending our school year at the end of May.

Alex has just been making awesome progress this year. He was able to read this yesterday with no problem.

In math today, he read this page and did the problems without me. I wasn't in the room and had no idea he had started and finished this page with no help.

Thomas, who has never been a sit still kind of kid, has just become interested in drawing and loves to hand me his pictures.

He is also working on writing his name. I feel bad that he has an "S" in his name. That's a hard one.

Many people have asked me if we would be continuing school over the summer. Honestly, it's something that probably just wouldn't happen. We have lots to do between passes to Dutch Wonderland, swimming at the pool, hiking, fishing, playing at parks, etc. I know that even if I intended to do it, it wouldn't get done!

BUT, we have two things the boys must do every day.

First is reading. Obviously, we will read to both kids every day, as we always do. Alex will also need to read something to us every day. He'll be keeping a reading log for the library's summer reading program. It can be whatever he chooses. Lately, Smurf comic books are his thing.

Also, we got both boys some workbooks, and they will need to complete a page each day.

Thomas has numbers and letter sounds (he can identify all the letters but doesn't know their sounds yet).

I went looking around at Barnes and Noble and ended up choosing this for Alex. Yes, he'll need help with it, but I think it will be at a good, challenging level for him.

That's it, really. I have barely any photos from this month, for some reason. Here are the ones I do have. I'm sure many more will be coming next month as things get more interesting!

That's it from Boomerang Drive!
